The Department of History of Art of the Faculdade de Ciencias Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal, uses the Galo ArtAtlas® software since September 2002. It is an iconographic database of works of Art based on the department's post-graduation studies of the last few years. This system especially designed for scientific research integrates data about works, authors, bibliography, curriculum, and artistic and social context. This database is available to all researchers through the internet site of the Center of History of Contemporary Art at http://neac-iha.fcsh.unl.pt/. (On and off according to de department's policy).

Features of a work of Art
The pictures are registered and catalogued according to basic criteria such as author's name, title and type of work, date of production. It makes it possible to list pictures and their features whether they are Sculpture, Illustration, Architecture or Urbanism.

Curriculum of a work of Art
It includes the curriculum of a work of art through the years: exhibitions, restoration, reproduction, ownership, etc. The career of the work is recorded and easy to search for.

Associated bibliography
The works of art referred to in bibliography have a specific area for the type of bibliography such as Periodical, Thesis, Book or Catalogue (?). The author's biography and bibliography are also included.
